Beautiful, healthy Ava Jane was born last Tuesday. Grahame and I now have six grandchildren. We are blessed.
Three girls, and three boys: Madison, Zachari, Flynn, Trinity, Heath, and Ava, (and Mya, deceased).

I'm not getting caught up in the future generations of population increase I have played a part in - it's pointless. But at the same time, overpopulation and the critical issues of exploitation and waste of the Earth's resources do cross my mind. I only hope I can impart my individual enthusiasm for the development of sustainable practices, and awareness of the responsibilities we humans have to our planet home.
Some people might think that such thoughts mixed with the wonder that a precious baby brings is odd, or completely out of place, or even heartless. But once a person realises that the Earth gives us gifts of life every day, not just with the birth of a baby, it is simply natural thought processes that delve into human impact on the Earth multiplied as each generation multiplies.

I had strong maternal instincts when I was young. I was meant to be a mother. But many adults are choosing not to become parents. I admire their strength of character and responsibility.
And I also enjoy being a grandmother. These special babies and children bring much joy to my life. During the course of natural interraction, they teach me, and I teach them. Besides the love we so willingly give to each other, I aim to give my grandchildren a part of me that they will remember and treasure well after I am gone.
I am looking forward to forming a bond with baby Ava.

Hi Gaye
There is no reason not to appreciate the life of a new child.
If we cannot be optimistic then, when can we?
.
It is a blessing, as you yourself realise, when considering the alternative fate of Mya.
.
Enjoy life - yours and Ava's.
Cheers
Denis
Hi Gaye,
Congratulations on the wonderful new addition to your family!
I can relate to your thinking on the issue of motherhood and population -- parenthood changes people and brings them in touch with new aspects of their humanity, yet there are pressing population issues.
Hopefully these issues can be balanced, with people having smaller families and embracing more sustainable lifestyles.
I recently acquired a brand new niece and nephew, Isla and William, and I'm also looking forward to getting to know them.
Cheers
Catherine
Hello Denis,
thank you. I certainly do enjoy my grandchildren. They are such a precious part of my life.
When my first grandchild was on the way, I thought "how cute, a baby in the family". But nothing could prepare me for the depth of love I developed for that child, and those that followed. And the wonderful change that they have made to my life is amazing. Yes, I truly am blessed.
Kind regards,
Gaye
Hello Catherine,
thank you. It is lovely to know that you also have new babies in your family, and that you will be able to get to know them.
I am inspired and encouraged by the emergence of a growing trend towards recognising and adopting environmentally sustainable living practices. And I am quite aware that much of this new wave of awareness and responsibility is being passed from child to parent as the child learns in a new way at school. It is all very positive, and provides hope for the future of our planet and humanity's role.
Kind regards,
Gaye
